AlexSandro Palombo, who contributed to our upcoming fashion month edition, surprised me with a blog post and illustration portraying me as the “subway’s fashion queen” with some major cleavage action. Too funny!
Trend report: The season of contrasts
The sporty v. the romantic Colorful graphic prints v. nudes
Athletic references were all over the place: Alexander Wang and Alexandre Herchcovitch’s football themed collections, Y-3’s ode to the World Cup, Balenciaga’s techno hoodies, Louis Vuitton’s fanny packs and drawstring detailing, the list goes on. The sporty looks also ran the gamut from purely functional to luxe and fabulous. On the opposite end of the fashion spectrum, though, were super romantic ruffles and feminine draping a la Stella McCartney, Etro and Burberry.
After a few seasons of goth and rocker-fueled black, color is popping up for spring in a big way. Witness the primary-colored and African-influenced graphic prints at Paul Smith and Marc by Marc Jacobs, the rich tones at Rochas and the eye-popping use of red at Dolce & Gabbana. Meanwhile, nudes sprung up at Givenchy, Lanvin, Chloe and a litany of others.
